What can I say, I had a bit of a bump between my last post and this post. Doesn't mean that I had given up on my enjoyment of "B-Movies." To be honest, some of them don't even deserve a "B-Movie" Rating.
Just last night, I was laying down to catch up my kingdom (in "Kingdom Age") on my iPad, when WA-LA - there was "Piranhaconda!"
I had to watch!
While not the campy gore of Sharktopus, Piranhaconda offered a semi-serious story of screaming botoxed women. Men are usually not botoxed on SyFy. Prinhaconda offered plenty of gore, but in some cases, the people were consumed "way too fast."
I'm certain that it will be replaying; however, next week is "Arachnoquake". Some how, I'm not 100% certain about this one. 2-Headed Shark, Sharktopus, and Prianhaconda. Those are worthy creatures.
Like the 2-Headed Shark, I am debating Piranha 3DD. The trailer is too funny! I fail to see how a straight guy would not watch the show. LOL

2 Heads. 1 Shark.
Movie Review: 2 Headed Shark Attack.
Okay, I lied. This isn't a movie review. I wish that I could do a review, but I have been banned from renting the movie. Even when there is nothing else on TV or PPV, I have been told that I could not spend the $6 of such a preordained classic.
Yes, yes. I have tried to explain the significance of "2 HEADS 1 SHARK"; however, Jamie does not seem to grasp the sheer brilliant concept behind the movie.
I already know what I am renting, as it is akin to the now classic, "Sharktopus".
For those of you who have not seen the trailer and/or realize the classic concept behind the movie, I would recommend you take a moment to watch and enjoy. If you happen to rent the movie, please do not rub it in.

Quick Post On The Avengers Movie Part II
A question came in on the original post. I'll paraphrase: "Do I need to see any of the previous films to enjoy The Avengers?".
I would suggest seeing Thor. Loki is the main villain and Thor is really the setup for The Avengers. Thor sets up Loki's motivation for his actions in The Avengers. With that said, if you haven't seen Thor, they explain enough to bring you up to speed.
The Ed Norton Incredible Hulk is referenced, but if you've ever seen an episode of the show or red any issues of The Incredible Hulk, you're good. The one line that definitely ties it into the continuity is one about what Hulk did to Harlem.
As for Captain America, it's technically the lead in, but all you really need to know is that he is a government created super soldier that the government hasn't been able to replicate and he was frozen for 70ish years.
If you haven't seen one Iron Man film, you'd be fine. They're barely referenced and what references there are are explained.
Nuff Said!

Quick Post On The Avengers Movie
If you haven't seen The Avengers (aka Avengers Assemble) yet. Run, don't walk, to the nearest theater and see it.
You won't gain much by watching it in 3D, but I would love to have seen it in IMAX. The Helicarrier scenes (most of the film) and the final battle scene all look like they were really meant to be seen in IMAX.
The only aspect that took me out of the film was that they had Scarlett Johansson's best assets featured on the screen every chance they could. I'm not complaining, but it pulled me out of the story a couple of times.
Mark Ruffalo, as much as I don't really like him, brought his A Game and killed it as Bruce Banner. I am actually looking forward to him playing Banner in further Avengers and Hulk films. Really, really good job.
It was Robert Downey, Jr., as Tony Stark/Iron Man who "stole the show", except he didn't have to. It was his show to own.
It is a little long at 2:20, so be sure to hit the restroom before the previews. And it is a Marvel movie, so you will need to sit through the credits. There are two extra scenes. The first is after the flashy, pretty credits and the second is after the complete, boring credits. The second one doesn't add much to the story or continuity...and yet it says a lot about what was going on.
My wife, my 8 year old daughter, my 5 year old son, and I all loved it for a variety of reasons.

New Red Trailer
It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Warren Ellis's comic book work. one of the more interesting pieces of recent history is the 3 issue series Red pencilled by Cully Hamner (I almost typed Hammer just to mess with him if he ever read this).
Warner Brothers is releasing a film loosely based on this work. If you've read the series and have seen or read anything about the movie, you know the film is definitely not the comic. It looks like it will be fun just the same. Plus Ernest Borgnine appears in it, so it has to be good.
Enjoy:

Inception

Having seen the trailers of Revolutionary Road, I knew to avoid the story of a self-absorbed, wannabe artist who had to find his way to Paris to realize his full potential (Talk about advertising. Read some Stevens, Faulkner, McCarthy, and Cisneros, guy.)
Of course, Blood Diamond and The Departed drew me back--cautiously. I was surprised, but unconvinced. In my mind, DiCapiro was still a pretty boy tied to Hollywood romantic propaganda.
This weekend, the wife and kids drug me into Inception. We arrived early, giving me plenty of time to question my decision. The hot dog my wife bribed me with held me over to the start of the movie. Once it began, I stopped wondering.
Nolan has created a beautifully demanding masterpiece. A tight, complex narrative. Stunning imagery integral to the storyline. A tortured, broken protagonist uncertain of where to keep his past. And as much as I hate to admit it--spot on casting. DiCapiro was perfect.
Stand in line if you have to. This one is worth seeing.

Trailer: Let Me In
Now this has all the markings of a good vampire movie!
So the question is: "Would you help the little girl? Would you let her in?"
Oh, by the way, I am loving the soundtrack.

'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' Trailer HD
I was asked if this movie was based upon a comic book or graphic novel.
Has anyone seen Fantasia? With Mickey. The cartoon. Remember? (Robert: Not to mention the semi epic story by Goethe that the Fantasia bit was based on. Just sayin'.)
They even have the mop scene:

Batman: Under the Red Hood
Save time. Skip the graphic novel. Pick up the Blu-Ray.
Not that thrilled with Batman's voice. Need to look it up.
Bayard's Thoughts
No way.
Period.
This looks far far too anime. Too cute. There is a bit of edge to the narrative and graphics of the novel that this thing fails to capture. This is something for a mom to keep in her Yukon to play on long family road trips to keep the kids happy.
If you are looking for cute, fun videoes, get you a couple of Blamoids for company and buy Family Guy.

Summer 2010 Movies That I Have the Slightest Interest In
Movies that I might be interested in watching:
Salt, an Angelina Jolie vehicle to launch a sort of female James Bond type thing.
Robin Hood looks interesting although I don't think I like Cate Blanchett or Russell Crowe that much. Plus Ridley Scott hasn't done much that I've liked since about the time he did Gladiator.
Prince of Persia looks fun.
Iron Man II looks to potentially be better than the first one. I think part of the reason sequels are sometimes better than the first movie in a series is because the origin stuff is out of the way.
Shrek 4. Why not? I've enjoyed the first three.
The A-Team up to a point. Mostly it's totally affection for the original show. And to be completely honest the trailer had me interested up until the tank fell out of the airplane and started shooting at the other air planes. Really? Still, I'll probably watch it.
The Karate Kid looks really good. I never thought I'd say that. The whole premise of turning things around and immersing the kid in China intrigues me.
The Last Air Bender. I love the cartoon and expect to love the movie series just as much.
The Losers. This is the A-Team done right for the 21st century. Plus Zoe Saldana is awesome (and hot).
Movies I should be looking forward to but aren't:
Knight & Day. It just doesn't interest me in the least.
Jonah Hex. He's a post Civil War era comic book cowboy / bounty hunter.
Toy Story 3. Eh! I didn't really enjoy the second one much. Plus it's been 15 years since the original came out. I've changed.
But that's just my 2 cents.

Drawn Together - The Movie!
Wahoo!!!! Yes, the show is offensive. Yes, the show is wrong in so many ways. Yes, I should be embarrassed to admit that I actually scheduled my DVR to catch every episode.
But I don't care!!!!! If you haven't seen the show, then you know what I am talking about. If you haven't, then you should pass on the trailer.
Available for enjoyment - April 20th.

Predators
Can you ever have enough predators and aliens?
I just came across the blurb for Robert Rodriguez’s new version of the Predator saga. I enjoyed the first Predator—though the FX quickly dated it. (The sequels were dated before they hit the theaters.) One reviewer complained that this new one seems to lack the plot of the original. I don't remember the original as having much of a plot beyond dog fighting: throw a bunch of angry maulers into a pit to see which comes out. "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
All of that said--Rodriguez usually has a cool, unique vision in his movies. I am curious to see if it holds with his return to the rednecks of outer space.
Good, bad, indifferent. I think it is an obligatory.

Iron Man 2 - Trailer 2
Yes. YES! IRON MAN 2.
Everyone has their favorite superhero movie, and I think mine is Iron Man, which makes the release of Iron Man 2 just a tad bit exciting for me. I'm not an Iron Man collector or avid reader. In fact, I am embarrassed to say that I don't even own an Iron Man statue.
Yeah, yeah. Leave me alone. My finances at the time were a tad bit stretched, so I had to pass on the one that I wanted. Hmmm.....note to self: surf net for possible sale item.
Sorry to ramble.
So, when I got back to my hotel last night, turned on the TV and saw the new trailer. I realized that I had to post! I had to share! I had to oooh and aaah.

Zombieland
Horror movies reveal more than we like to admit.
In the ‘50s, we were facing alien invasion. In the ‘70s and ‘80s, slashers lurked at summer camp and in our dreams. In the ‘90s, psychosis ran amok. At the turn of the century, death, boggies, and ghosts tracked down wayward teens. And now in the new millennium, we face apocalyptic hordes of zombies. Different eras face different demons.
The demons personify our fears—our communal terrors. In the dark theater, we can band together to face our boogie men. Alien invasions were thinly disguised Soviets. Slashers reflected a growing intolerance of ‘immoral,’ ‘anti-social behavior’ (sex equals death). Vengeful ghosts and death batting clean up reminded us that our payments were due, fate had caught up with us.
And our 21st century zombies? Perhaps they are the lurking fear of our loss of humanity in the face of technology and big business. We are the pod people—although the pod looks and sounds a bit different than we were led to expect.
Zombieland laughs as our demons burst out of the closet--or in this case the public restroom trailing a piece of tp. Other worse fates await (the loneliness of life spent playing WoW or
blogging).
Rent it. Watch it. Learn the rules. And be a hero.

Legion - In Theaters 2010

While the 'crawly-human-demon' thing seems to be a standard in movies these days, I can ignore some of that for other aspects of the movie.
Here is to hoping the movie turns out as cool as the trailer looks.

Superman / Batman Vol. 1 - Public Enemies

Art by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines and Tim Sale
Cover by Ed McGuinness and DexteR Vines
I enjoyed the comic story that the movie was based upon; however, I felt that the movie had to forsake aspects of the story to fit it all into a video. But did they choose the wrong pieces? Batman and Superman's friendship was hinted at - but not as strong as the original story portrayed. In the book, they could almost finish each others sentences and knew what the other was likely to do / think.
Did I expect more out of the movie? Maybe a little. Is it worth watching? Hell, yeah. It had a lot more to offer then the majority of movies that are put out there these days. But with the awesome scribing talents of Jeph Loeb and the unique style of art by Ed Guinness, this movie made for an excellent afternoon matinee at home. Something the entire family could enjoy.
Finally, with this being Vol. 1; mayhap, we will be lucky enough to get more team-up videos between the two of them.

Land of the Lost

Plan this weekend ahead of time.
I mean, seriously, the toys alone speak volumes!
Robert: I was a huge fan of the original show and the remake show from the mid 80s. This movie isn't the show. Like Zimm, I'm not a Will Farrell fan. I don't think he's a fit for this property. It also looks like they removed the family bits. The original was funny, but more like unintentional funny. I have a feeling this is going to be another of those movies that are more of a parody of the original show than a movie based on the show (ie: Dukes of Hazzard, Brady Bunch) and that's a genre I haven't enjoyed so far.
If it turns out to be a good movie, it won't be because it's the Land Of the Lost.
