Shop Talk

For those of you that don't know I live in Japan. I'm asked on occasion what things I miss most about living in The States. There are the obvious things like family, food, and being able to understand the people around you. One thing I miss is simply sitting around the comic shop shooting the shit.

So lets jump in to a few cool things I found going on in the "Geek World", and talk some shop.

I just picked up the new Art of Tony Millionaire. Some times you just need more Sock Monkey in your life. I guess I missed out on Eric Powell's run on Superman: Escape from Bizarro World. So I snagged the hardcover.

Evidently September 13th was Roald Dahl Day? Apple rolled out a very cool featurette on the making of Fantastic Mr. Fox. Mrs. Dahl let director Wes Anderson move into her house to write the screen play.

I was recently a guest on the podcast Fanboy Confidential episode 44 discussing film maker Guillermo del Toro. I helped by being very sick, and doing zero show prep. Both are apparent.

The guys recently came back from the Atlanta Dragon Con. My friend Maurice hooked me up with a sweet William Stout commission of Dejah Thoris.
On day two of the con Maurice paid Stout for the commission along with a general idea of what I wanted. He told Maurice to come back the next day, and it would be ready. Maurice showed up at Stout's table the next day only to discover that Stout had sold the piece earlier to someone else. So Maurice had to sit there while he drew me another one.

Are you on shelfari? It' an online library to keep track of your books, and share them with others. I'm working my way through my collection...but I'm nowhere near Neil Gaiman's. I'm sure more than half of that is just porn.

Log on to your Netfix, and add Second Skin. It's a great documentary about the people who play MMORPGs. It' reduces playing World of Warcraft to a masturbatory addiction, and it's well worth your time.

I now stand on the eve of the Halo 3: ODST launch, and I am more than prepared to drop. Why didn't they just make a full length movie out of that? I'm hyped to travel down the "Road to Recon". I want my recon armor now. It's been over two years, and almost four thousand games, and I think I deserve it!

Next weekend I should have a report up from the Tokyo Game Show, and we have some friends attending the Baltimore Comic-Con in October.

So what's up with you guys?

As far as Eric Powell's run on Superman: Escape from Bizarro World, it's much better in the collected edition. I think it's definitely one that deserves to be read in hard cover.
