Reviewing DC Trade/GN Solicits for February 2009

I found the list here.

A few highlights:

Trades/Graphic Novels I'm going to buy:

SECRET HISTORY OF THE AUTHORITY: HAWKSMOOR TP (Jack Hawksmoor of the Authority and formerly of Stormwatch is one of my two favorite Wildstorm characters. The only thing that would have made this better would have been if Cully Hamner had done the interiors in addition to the covers.)

BATMAN: HAUNTED GOTHAM TP (Doug Moench & Kelley Jones doing Batman in the DCU)

CHECKMATE: CHIMERA TP (I haven't read any of Jones' Checkmate issues yet, but I really loved the Rucka run, and this is the final trade of the series, so it's on the list. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but I've bought worse for worse reasons.)

THE WAR THAT TIME FORGOT VOL. 1 TP (It's good so far. I've only read the first couple of issues though.)

JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL VOL. 1 TP (If you read DC comics in the mid 80s you read this book. It was the funniest thing going and after Crisis, this book was exactly what we needed.)

SHOWCASE PRESENTS: AMBUSH BUG VOL. 1 TP (It's Keith Giffen doing what he does best. Plain and simple.)

Trades/Graphic Novels I'm not getting:

ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN: FOR TOMORROW HC (Mostly because I didn't really enjoy the comics when they came out originally. Yes, the Jim Lee artwork can only look better bigger, but...)

SHAZAM!: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL TP (Didn't really strike me as Jeff Smith or Captain Marvel enough for me)

SUPERMAN/BATMAN: ENEMIES AMONG US TP (I've lost all interest in Superman/Batman once it began affecting continuity. Like All Star Superman, it's best when it's in its own little world, doing its own thing. Now it's just another Superman and/or Batman book.)

TEEN TITANS SPOTLIGHT: CYBORG TP (I haven't cared for the Titans after some time during the last series that Devin Grayson began. It was a while after she left the book though. I think it was during Jay Faerber's run and he and the editor were fighting for control of the book.)
