The Problem With Power Girl

Greetings!

There has been something on my mind for quite some time, and I think it needs to be addressed.

One of my favorite female characters in comicdom has to be the DCU's Power Girl. She's tough, she has a great character, and there is a lot a writer can do with the character.

However, whenever I say that I like Power Girl, giggling ensues. This leads me to the problem, or should I say problems, with this character.

It would appear that people simply cannot get over Power Girl's gigantic breast size, at least, that is what is said. I think there is something else that is bothering them.

Power Girl is well-endowed, but properly proportioned. She actually has a body that is capable of supporting her back-breaking breasts, unlike other comic book females. For some reason, this is off-putting.

Have the rest of you noticed this?

Yes - in fact, I thought that they were part of her power. However, with that said, she is probably the only character that I accept these enhancements, as it is something that she has had since I have known her.

So overall, I agree with your assessment.

They're large? Hadn't noticed. Kidding!

Her bust size originated as a bit of a joke by the artist (Wally Wood I believe?). He kept making her chest larger and larger each issue until his editor finally told him to stop. I think it was like 11 issues.

The other bit here that is potentially offensive is the continued use the the term Power "Girl" when she's clearly no longer a girl.

She's definitely one of the more interesting characters in the DC Universe. I always liked the parallel of her and Huntress as compared to Superman and Batman.

Plus she's quite probably tied with Wonder Woman for the coolest Ame Comi so far.

Well, I'm glad to see a consensus. I was starting to wonder if maybe the breasts had overpowered my mind...
