No. Pretty much a different Hellboy. The movies are pretty much Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy and serve as more the gateway drug to the greater Hellboy universe.
Also, as with the Wizard of Oz, if you've only seen the movie, you're missing out. Those are really fun books.

Is the second Hellboy out on video yet? Wouldn't that be easier than reading the comic books?
